Where to Park in Virginia Highland

The go-to guide to finding your spot without losing your mind (or your wallet)
July 2, 2026

Finding parking in Virginia Highland doesn't have to be a source of stress. Whether you're coming for brunch, shopping, or a night out, there are more options than you might think (including plenty of free ones). Here's your go-to guide to parking in the district.

Free Parking Options

Behind Paper Source: Tucked behind Paper Source on North Highland Ave, this lot offers free parking. Valet service is also available here when you prefer a more convenient drop-off. It's one of the most central free options in the heart of VaHi.

Behind Press & Grind: Need your caffeine fix before you shop? There's free parking tucked away behind Press & Grind and Urban Cottage, making it easy to pop in for a latte and then explore the rest of the district on foot.

Street Parking: Don't overlook the streets themselves. North Highland Ave from University Dr to St Charles Ave, as well the majority of surrounding side streets offer free on-street parking. Your best bet is to arrive a bit early, especially on weekends, and do a loop through the residential streets just off the main drag.

Amsterdam Village: The Amsterdam Village area (near San Francisco Coffee, Ela, and Rosa) has free parking available, putting you within easy walking distance of some great neighborhood restaurants and shops at the corner of North Highland Ave and Amsterdam Ave.

Morningside Village: Heading to the Morningside end of the district? There's free parking in that area as well, convenient for visiting spots like Alon's Bakery, Whiskey Bird, and Doc Chey's.

Paid Parking Options

Next to Highland Woodworking: There is paid parking available at Highland Woodworking on North Highland Ave. It's a convenient central location with a parking attendant if you don't want to walk far.

Behind Atkins Park Restaurant & Bar: Paid parking is available behind Atkins Park Restaurant & Bar. This is a smart choice when you're heading out for a longer evening and want a guaranteed spot close to the action.

Near Blind Willie's: Paid parking can be found across from and behind Blind Willie's Blues Club, Truva, and Highland Yoga, making it an easy option for a night of live music and dinner in the district.

Pro Parking Tips

Weekday parking is generally a breeze. Weekend afternoons and evenings (especially during events like Porchfest or the VaHi Farmers Market on Sunday mornings) are when competition for spots heats up. Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early, and remember that a short walk through this beautiful neighborhood is part of the charm.
