Browsing at Virginia Highland Books

1. The Classic Date: Books, Pasta and Gelato

Begin with a Browse at Virginia Highland Books

Start before dinner at Virginia Highland Books, a cozy independent shop near the center of the district. Browse the changing selection of novels, compare staff picks, choose a book for each other or head downstairs for coffee-table books and games.

Settle In for Dinner at La Tavola

A short walk away, La Tavola delivers the kind of neighborhood Italian dinner that feels special without becoming overly formal. Homemade pastas, wine, appetizers built for sharing and a warm dining room make it a natural date-night choice. Reservations are smart for popular evening times.

Finish with Paolo's Gelato

End around the corner at Paolo's Gelato. Choose from more than 60 flavors, split a cannoli or take a cone on a short walk through the neighborhood.

Local tip: All three of these local businesses are within a 5- minute walk of each other.

Couples session at The Splatter Studio

2. The Creative Date: Paint, Pizza and a Nightcap

Make Something Together at The Splatter Studio

The Splatter Studio turns date night into an activity in the first few minutes. The team provides protective clothing, a blank canvas, paint and different ways to drip, throw and splatter color. No art experience is required, and the finished piece becomes a souvenir from the night.

Share Italian Favorites at Osteria 832

After the paint settles, walk just a few blocks up North Highland Ave for dinner at Osteria 832. The neighborhood Italian restaurant serves made-from-scratch food with pizzas, pastas, wine and rotating daily specials.

End at Atkins Park

Finish nearby at Atkins Park, Atlanta's oldest continuously licensed tavern. A drink inside or on the patio gives the evening a relaxed ending and a little Virginia Highland District history without adding another drive.

Local tip: Reserve The Splatter Studio in advance and build enough time into the plan for the full session, cleanup and collecting your artwork before dinner.

Grooving at Blind Willie's

3. The Music Lover's Date: Turkish Dinner and Live Blues

Start with Meze and Cocktails at Truva

Begin at Truva Turkish Kitchen with hot and cold meze, salads, kebabs, vegetarian dishes and cocktails in a warm, lively dining room. Sharing several plates keeps dinner conversational and lets the table explore more of the menu before the show.

Walk to Blind Willie's Blues Club

A few doors away, Blind Willie's has been part of the neighborhood since 1968 and presents live blues five nights a week. Check the performance calendar first, then plan dinner around the showtime. The club also serves Cajun food when the night calls for a second round of snacks.

Keep the Night Going at Limerick Junction

For a final stop, Limerick Junction offers the easygoing energy of Atlanta's oldest Irish pub, with sports, live music and comedy depending on the night. It is a casual place for one more drink and a recap of the show.

Local tip: Confirm both venue schedules before leaving home. Performance times, cover charges and special events can change, and the right timing will keep dinner from feeling rushed.

Make the Date Your Own

The best date-night plan leaves room for the mood to change. For a polished dinner, consider Murphy's, Ela or Highland Tap. For shared plates and a livelier bar atmosphere, try Whiskey Bird, Bar.bacoa, George’s, Rosa Cantina, The Family Dog, or Yakitori Kona. Morelli's Gourmet Ice Cream is an easy dessert swap when the date calls for ice cream instead of gelato.
