A Rich History
Virginia Highland got its start in the 1920s as one of Atlanta's original streetcar suburbs. It grew up around the intersection of Virginia and Highland avenues, where early brick storefronts brought utilitarian groceries, pharmacies, and hardware shops to a walkable community.
By the 1970s, the neighborhood was fading. A proposed interstate even threatened to bulldoze it entirely. But neighbors fought back and won, sparking a wave of revitalization that turned those same storefronts into the eclectic mix of boutiques, bars, and restaurants that put VaHi on the map.
That same spirit lives on today in the very storefronts neighbors fought to save. Historic facades, human scale charm, preserved yet prospering. Come walk the streets and see why they were worth saving.
